Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. After her father's departure from her household, the actress was raised up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. When she was a young girl, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional disorder. Ford started acting in her teen years and joined a member of the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for a short time however, Ford realised that it was not the right location for her. Ford was then able to apply to be a student at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was also one of her classmates. Ford graduated in 1993 but in the meantime she was already making her debut on television in a 1991 episode of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate was a part of such TV shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London Burning. Tate would also frequently work as a theatre actor and was eventually a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season between 2000 and 2001. However, Tate was soon gaining notice for her stand-up comedy that she incorporated into her resume in the year 1996.
